21 days Training Program “DST-NGP Summer School on Geospatial Sciences & Technologies” L1 ‘GEOTECH 2022’, 6 – 26.06.2022

A 21 days summer school training programme on ‘Geospatial Sciences & Technologies – GEOTECH 2022’ Level 1 (L1) has been conducted by Department of geography, MLSU, Udaipur under the aegis of National Geospatial Programme Division (NGP), Department of Science & Technology, Government of India from 6-26 June, 2022. The mandate of the programme has been capacity building in the field of geospatial technology and strengthening its use in planning, monitoring, management & implementation of policies for natural resource management and development at grass root level. There were 19 participants including research scholars, teachers from universities, colleges and schools, government officials from forest department, scientist, and other academicians. The inaugural session was graced by Dr. Prithvish Nag, Former Surveyor General of India, Former Director, NATMO & Former Vice-Chancellor, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi as Chief Guest, Dr. A.K. Bera, Scientist/ Er. SG & General Manager, RRSC-W, NRSC, ISRO, Jodhpur as Guest of Honor. Dr. Nag delivered his talk on ‘Geospatial Road to SDGs: The UNGGIM Framework. Experts from ISRO units of SAC Ahmedabad, IIRS Dehradun, RRSC-W Jodhpur, industry experts from Google and Trimble who are authorities in respective specialized fields of Geospatial technology were invited as resource persons. The training programme was divided into three-week time period covering the major concepts of Cartography & GIS, Remote Sensing & Image Processing and Applications of Geospatial Technology in various fields. The technical sessions were divided as pre and post lunch sessions. The former included theory lectures by the experts and latter comprises hand on session conducted by the internal team of faculty members and scholars. A one-day local trip of Udaipur city was also organized for field survey where participants collected GPS points under the guidance of technical experts. Towards the end of the programme participants presented a small project targeting atleast one of the SDGs for their area through the use of geospatial technology. The project work and final feedback of the programme was evaluated by DST observer Dr. P.S. Acharya and Dr. K.M. Reddy from NRSC-ISRO. The valedictory session was chaired by Dr. Acharya and Dr. Reddy where they presented participants with a certificate of completion of the programme.
