World Menstruation Hygiene Day 28.05.2021

Let’s Talk, Period! World Menstruation Hygiene Day 28.05.2021 UGC Centre for Women's Studies, Mohanlal Sukhadia University, with the support of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Amarika Singh, Prof. Seema Malik, Dean UCSSH and the esteemed faculty members of MLSU, on the occasion of World Menstruation Hygiene Day, organised an online Interactive Session with Dr. Piush Antony, Social Policy Specialist, UNICEF India, Ms. Laad Lohar, the Pad Woman of Udaipur and Ms. Charlotte Cotton, founding member of Mewar Collective. Dr. Antony talked about socio- cultural and biological aspects of Menstruation focusing on existing stereotypes, taboo and stigma attached to it. Ms. Laad Lohar shared her experience of making pads in the rural area and generating awareness among girls in rural and tribal areas of Udaipur and Ms. Charlotte shared journey about Mewar collective and its work in the area. In addition, Ms. Tanushri, Research Scholar, MLSU presented a research paper on her study on Menstrual Hygiene in Dabok, Udaipur. Ms. Tanvi, A graduate of NIFT Kolkata beautifully questioned stigma attached to menstruation though her pictorial depiction I’mpure. This interactive session was attended by more than 90 participants. this helped the participants to break the silence about menstruation and provide a platform to express their thoughts in a healthy atmosphere. Also helped participants in learning appropriate language and expressions related to menstruation. UGC centre for Women’s Studies continues its outreach program to aware and inform society by information dissemination. Some e-posters related to menstruation are being shared. The posters may be shared on social media platforms like WhatsApp to take this initiative forward.
